FEM-IASMA’s role in this project will be to apply advanced genomic techniques for both the analysis of genetic variability within germplasm collection of Malus domestica and other Malus species, and for the characterization of alleles correlated with the resistance and tolerance to pathogens, with particular emphasis to scab, mildew, fireblight, and apple proliferation. The analysis of resistance genes will be paralleled by a study of genes putatively associated with pre-harvest-related traits, such as fruit self-thinning, or novel fruit quality traits related with nutraceutical or allergenicity.
