The main objective of this WP is to develop new tools to be used in the pre-harvest phase. Particular attention will be devoted to: 1) yield control and self-thinning genotypes. Further knowledge of the genetic and molecular bases of abscission will allow the development of abscission-specific molecular tools to uncover the thinning aptitude of a genotype and the effectiveness of new low-impact thinning agents; 2) the use of water as a tool for regulating overall quality. A more finely-tuned definition of the concept of overall quality will allow to elicidate the regulatory role of water in controlling relevant metabolic pathways; 3) the use of innovative technologies for precision fruit cultivation, to evaluate the effects of cultivation practices in precision agriculture through the use of feed-back analysis (WP1).
